Crown Street Cottage -Stitch Witchery- Get to Know Me April Koenig is the stitch witch in residence at the cottage. A retired baker and military spouse, she has collected ideas and embroidery from around the world. A student of The Royal School of Needlework April is a certificate graduate with merit, but don't let that fool you... she is most happy when she has stones and rusted bottle caps in her pockets with moss and mushrooms in her thoughts as she wanders through the woods with her dogs. April enjoys recreating in fiber the worlds she sees in the moss on the forest floor or on stumps and logs. Gallery - click on a photo to scroll through the full catalog 1/2 On the Frame... Greetings! This is me trying to do weekly updates! Today, on Maintenance Monday, I'm working on the website a bit, never the fun part of my week, but needs must! I'm currently working on a blackwork of some curbside mushrooms, it's going well but very slowly. I'm hoping to have it done for the August show at Canal Quarter Arts. There is also a puppet in the throws of creation. He will hopefully become a tree spirit, we'll see, sometimes they decide differently from what I originally intended. For fans of the fantastic and the odd, we are the Underbridge Society, an eclectic alliance of artists delving into the shadows and ideas running behind, beneath, and below. We were born from the combined efforts of Crown Street Cottage & The Clockwork Ticker who share this passion for the unusual and different and encouraging imagination and an appreciation of art and the fantastic in the world around us. Society Members Crown Street Cottage On a country lane, hidden amongst the trees the cottage is home to the Stitch Witch. Using various fibers paired with objects found on her wanderings she creates magical worlds, both realistic and fantastical, often nestling them within old crockery and delicate china. Sometimes, when she works her magic, fantastical creatures come and make their homes within. When she is not creating little worlds she can be found hunched over tiny black stitches trying to bring black and white images to life. The Clockwork Ticker Life with a re-purpose! The Clockwork Ticker Team believes in bringing together the fantastic and the mundane; whether it’s a soft-sculpture figure, a story of monsters, or a re-purposed old toy we let our imaginations fly to new heights. At our shows - and here online - you can find everything from Young Gentlemen to Scrapplings, and from Beasties to Huldufolk ... and the myriad of Bog Troggles in-betwixt. All the art produced here is made by Kay Wrenn... a little off kilter and wholly one of a kind. Just right for the happily earthbound, recently departed, or displaced soul.
